My Story
Hello everyone! My name is Jordan Hankerson and I am a performing artist. My love for performing began at a very young age when I sat in my parent’s rehearsals and attended every performance on the front row. My parents taught me that the world is a stage so it was my job to shine! The moment I could walk, I started dancing; the moment I could talk, I started singing; the moment I learned how to express my emotions; I became a thespian. I have been performing since I was 4 years old! It all started with competitive cheerleading then expanded to a plethora of extracurricular activities in the performing arts once I started school. In elementary school and throughout high school those activities included dance classes, orchestra, chorus, marching band auxiliary dance team, dance company, glee club, gospel choir, and last but certainly not least theatre. I knew I loved the performing arts and that it was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life! Born and raised in Durham, North Carolina I attended Hillside High School where I received the foundation of my dance, theatre, and vocal training. I went on to receive my B.F.A. degree in Professional Theatre from North Carolina A & T State University where I also minored in Journalism and Mass Communications with a concentration in Mass Media Productions. I had the honor of working professionally by the time I started my senior year of college. Since starting my professional career I have performed at The Barn Dinner Theatre in Greensboro, NC, The National Black Theatre Festival, and Triad Stage. During my senior year of college I also made my choreography debut at The Barn Dinner Theatre with the show Groovin’ and have since choreographed Dreamgirls at North Carolina A & T! One of my most exciting achievements thus far is being cast as and originating the role of Gloria in Triad Stage’s world premiere of “Rebellious”, directed by Donna Bradby and written by Mike Wiley, where I became an Equity Member Candidate. I look forward to where my career will take me and I hope it lands me center stage on Broadway or on set!
